In order to encourage the participation of the parishioners in all activities of  Saint Rocco's Church we have some organizational groups that meet periodically.

CURSILLO GROUP

We, as a group, have regular meetings called Ultreya, on which we live our "fourth day" since we become part of the group by experiencing a three-day spiritual retreat on which we become united in a fraternal bond. Cursillo Group members are called Cursillistas, and as such, we share the testimonies that we live through Christ in the community; in fact, we have become the pillars of every function within the parish.

Within our Christian movement, we love, educate and learn to serve others with sincerity and humility. We live the sacramental life in complete plenitude through the Eucharist, which is beginning and end of it all; where every apostolate is embodied. This is the essential nourishment of each Cursillista.

In our community, the Ultreya has left lasting footprint, that serve as a guiding path to new Cursillislas, and have impacted the world to change from "...primitive to human, from human to Christian." As our founder, Eduardo Bonin depicted.

How do we live our "fourth day"? We live it with sheer joy, when we hold our weekly Ultreya meetings on Wednesdays from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. During our Ultreya meetings we celebrate the Eucharist and all the steps to follow, that we as Cursillistas know.

The Ultreya works with small groups of friendship comprised by 8 people. Bach group, also referred to as a family, has their meeting on any day of the week of their Choosing; and it is important for each group to share their experiences.

Each group or family has a name. Groups or families that comprise the Cursillo Group are;

1. The Abraham Family

2. The Saint Michael Family.

3. The Family of Our Lady of Mount Carmel.

4. The Family of Saint Vincent of Paul

5. The Family of Saint Peter.

6, The Family of Saint Jude.

7. The Family of Saint Anthony.

8. The Family of Saint Francis of Assisi.

·                    The total of Cursillo group members is approximately 80.

·                    The assistance that the Ultreya provides surpasses 55 brothers and sisters.

·                    We have our mass on the third Sunday of every month.

·                    The shared meeting with our Spiritual Director is very harmonious and of absolute transparency.

·                    We are grateful to God for this gift of kindness.

·                    The Ultreya is focused on the commitment of making possible the principles of:

  •    Prayer – My relationship with God, spiritual life.

  •    Study - Everything concerning formation, reading.

  •     Action '" Every apostolate that each brother accomplishes under the guidance of Christ.

THE SACRED HEART SOCIETY

It is a group that is comprised by ladies, who are dedicated to their spiritual growth, which is essential in their goal of helping other people.

In the spiritual aspect, their goal is to attend the Holy Mass on the first Fridays of every month, to receive Communion and to witness the exposition of the Blessed Sacrament and the Holy Hour. Also, on the first Thursdays, they hold a vigil in the home of any of the members. During the months of May and October, they pray the Rosary in the homes of people from the community.

Their meetings are held every fourth Sunday of the month after the Holy Mass, and it is mandatory for an members to wear their uniforms and medallions as required by the guidelines of the Sacred Heart Society. The meeting begins with a reading from the Bible; afterwards, comments are made about what has been read, and finally the monthly activities are announced.

The Board of Directors is comprised of the President, the Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, and two Vocals. During the month of June, on Sacred Heart Day, the initiation of new members takes place through a special ceremony. It is their parochial duty to help all persons who are in need, whether visiting hospitals, homes or also keeping company to the mourners in funerals and rosaries. Social activities are also part of their duties, which they regularly hold in order to help with the support of the parish; these social activities include the organization of dances, trips and events that also family oriented to share with all as one family.

 The daughters of Mary

The main goal of this group, comprised of young girls, is based on an invitation to live a Christian life in the community where their parents are living the experience of a catholic faith in our parish.

The group is comprised  of  50 girls,  ages 8 to 16 years. The leader of this group is an adult who is prepared to be the leader of  this type of groups. This person works with these young ladies aiming her efforts to prepare them to become a positive  model in their communities and in their families.

The members of this group prepare the Holy Mass on the second Sunday of every month and they also meet on that day. On their meetings they get together for a special orientation to the Christian life and they get some small  Christian responsibilities to work with their parents and relatives.

Emphasis is placed on activities that prepare this group of girls to face future responsibilities as members of a community of Faith.

Catechists

Jornadistas

Jarnada movement of Christian life

The movement of "Jornadas de vida  Cristiana" was created 30 years ago in Brooklyn through the inspiration of the order of Vincentian Fathers. Currently, the Jornadista movement has more than 10.000 members. Moreover, Jornadas are well known as a Hispanic Catholic movement totally independent and different from any other movements. Saint Rocco's jornadista group mission is to evangelize from youth to youth. The group is comprised of teens ranging from ages 14 and up.

The Jornada group has at least twenty-three pre-jornadistas (pre-J's) and seventeen Jornadistas. The Pre-J's are those teens who have not lived their Jornada, but they are being prepared to live it. The Jornadistas are the teenagers who have already lived their Jornada.

The Jornadista group of St. Rocco meets every Friday at 7:30 P.M. in the basement of the church. This faithful and dynamic youth group belongs to the Diocese of Brooklyn.

Church Prayer Group

The main objective of this church organization is to make all participants conscious of the importance of living a Christian life through the meditation of the word of our Lord by reading the Holy Bible and singing songs of joy and glory to God. The pastoral duty of this group is to motivate all its members to  become active participants in all the spiritual and social activities of the church along with the parish community. The spiritual power  of this group reaches its highest and most effective  goal when they get together in the celebration of the Eucharist on Sundays and church holidays. The members of this group hold their meetings every Monday in the basement of the Church.

Ushers

The  group of ushers is comprised of some parishioners whose dedication to the parish is unquestionable. This group  has the responsibility of helping to keep the order in all church activities, especially during Holy Masses. The main goal of this group is to welcome all parishioners and help them in all their needs from accidents to illness and other difficulties or questions that they may have before, during, and after Masses.

This group is very important for the Church because they are the ones that support the parishioners and make them feel welcome at all activities. Also, they collect the donations from people to support the church needs.
